Throughout my career in aged care, I have focused on identifying and addressing factors that contribute to pressure injuries. I developed personalised seating systems and pressure redistribution plans to support residents throughout the day and night. At one facility, I worked with the care team to address these risks and observed a substantial reduction in the number and severity of pressure injuries.

One resident’s experience has stayed with me. Working alongside the care team, I developed an individualised seating and 24-hour pressure redistribution plan for a resident whose pressure injury was documented as 11 cm deep. The wound fully closed and did not recur during the period I continued to care for them.

Experiences like these showed me what is possible when changes in a person’s needs are recognised and addressed early. They led me to establish ROSE — Re-enable OT Service for the Elderly. In 2025, Curtin Business School awarded me a scholarship place in the Curtin Ignition Program, which broadened my vision beyond day-to-day clinical care and helped me further develop the ROSE Prevention System™.

Today, ROSE helps aged care teams recognise changing needs earlier and act together before a pressure injury develops. My hope is that the lessons I learned alongside residents and care teams become part of everyday prevention, so more older people can remain comfortable and engaged in daily life.
